My story
My journey as a Mathematics teacher began when I was just 14 years old.
I grew up on a rubber plantation, where my parents worked as rubber tappers. We lived in a house provided by the plantation owner.
Even at that young age, I had a passion for Mathematics. I started teaching Mathematics to children in our neighbourhood, using the corridor of our home as my classroom.
I never imagined then that this small beginning would eventually become my lifelong profession.
In 2002, while I was still a university student, I began teaching Mathematics professionally on a one-to-one basis. I started with face-to-face lessons and gradually developed a strong focus on examination Mathematics.

My greatest satisfaction has always been seeing students gain confidence, understand Mathematics deeply and achieve results they once thought were beyond them.
My students have consistently achieved outstanding examination results, with many years in which 100% of my students achieved A/A*.
In 2017, I was honoured with the Ahli Mangku Negara (A.M.N.) for my services to education, a Malaysian federal honour.
In 2010, I received the Cempaka Damansara Excellent Teachers Award, in recognition of a high standard of teaching performance in the Mathematics Department under the PMR category for the year 2009.
Since COVID-19, I have continued my one-to-one teaching online, allowing me to work with students beyond Malaysia.
Today, after more than two decades of professional teaching, I remain passionate about Mathematics and about helping students achieve their very best.
What began with a 14-year-old teaching Mathematics in the corridor of his home has grown into a lifelong journey in education.

My teaching approach
My teachings are all about user friendly basis using mostly the “Kumaraveelu’s Techniques”.
My teaching methods are based on my concept call “use something they know to teach something they don't know”.
Every lesson right after the initiation about a new chapter, students are immediately train to answer Cambridge IGCSE questions with exam techniques and strategies which helps them to excel in the subject very quickly.
My well planned steps and strategies when introducing new chapters makes learning easy and effortless.
The strategy to the success of the students all about right planning, finishing syllabus way earlier and concentrated focus to the add maths/A Level maths past papers and train students to master past paper questions strongly.
Real one-to-one teaching
Every lesson is shaped around one student, one set of goals, and the exact concepts that need attention.
Parents usually look for tuition close to the date of their children’s major exams. This going to be very difficult and stressful for the child having to quickly learn new information before exams. In most cases, students end up being unable to score to their full potential. I am quite certain about this as I have observed many cases in my teaching experience.
This is the reason I plan out everything from day one of year 10. We have an amazing 2 year time line of our teaching approach and if students follow all our plans with full commitment then the chances for them getting excellent results are certain.
I hope parents can see the importance in acting earlier as it will definitely bear fruits for your children with excellent exam results.
Act NOW! Delaying will cause losing precious time in building a strong foundation and will eventually stress which may lead to your children losing interest in the subjects and not scoring excellent results.
In my experience for past many years, students who came to me from the beginning of the year 10 and followed all my guidance with high commitment, achieved excellent results. The success is certain.
Around the world, additional mathematics is generally known as the hardest subject for 5th formers to score A* in. My plan is for students to finish their syllabus 6 months prior to the IGCSE exams so that we can begin intensive revision sessions and drilling on past papers to help students get an A* in a very stress free way. Finishing syllabus 6 months earlier gives us so much of room to enhance students ability to master exam techniques and strategies to score A*.
I teach the subject with the objective to deliver effortless learning. I am blessed with a skill to explain mathematics theories and methods clearly and in the easiest way with teaching or concept delivering techniques which I call “KUMARAVEELU’S TECHNIQUES”. This makes my students learning process very easy and effortless.
Often after I started coaching my students, they begin to gain interest not only in learning the subject but also in scoring very high marks in Maths and Add Maths. I have my way of influencing them to build self-confidence about their ability to do well in their exams. This self-confidence is what tremendously helps them set their goal to achieve the best they can in add math.
The formulas and ideas you learn in Math are very useful. Even if you never use them again, learning Maths develops critical thinking and problem-solving skills - it makes you smarter.
Your body gets stronger when you exercise by running, lifting weights, and jumping rope. Your mind gets stronger when you do Maths: solving problems, understanding new ideas, and proving theorems. Most athletes don’t do weightlifting competitions, but having stronger muscles will help them in their specialty. Most people don’t do advanced Math in their field of work, but being smarter helps them in everything they do. Math helps you learn how to solve seemingly impossible challenges in your life.
Math helps you learn to recognise mistakes in thinking processes and errors in arguments. It helps you recognise when people are lying to you or trying to cheat you. Math helps you handle data as the world is continuously being filled with more and more numbers, patterns, and data. Math gives you the important tools you need to deal with everyday living.
Generally students are very motivated at beginning of the year but down the road they eventually lose interest and are not motivated to study or even to score well. We continuously support them in the most important way which is moral support. At the same time, we make them realise and recognise their true potential and motivate them to achieve excellent results.
The syllabus will be completed 6 months before IGCSE Exams.
Right after completion of each chapter, students will immediately begin answering Cambridge IGCSE questions of the respective chapters.
Students will learn exam techniques and strategies every lesson.
My plans and strategies will continuously help students score well in school tests and exams which will help them have more confidence about their ability to score well in the subject.
I will continuously influence them to stay positive in achieving their goals in exams and give them moral support in all positive ways. To me, this is the most important aspect as being positive and working hard to achieve their goals will cultivate them into becoming a great leader to be successful.
Note: The moral support I provide, which is not easy to receive elsewhere, is extremely important for everyone’s development and I am committed to give that to our students.
My finding is that anyone can excel in Maths provided that we have the best motivated teachers and we have a great system to support the importance of Maths. We should nurture children to like Maths from as young as even ages 4 to 5 onwards. If children understand it well, they will begin to enjoy it and slowly will master Maths from a very young age. It all depends on how good the teacher is and how much attention is paid to the importance of Maths.
I have been achieving in making people like Maths and to excel in Maths. It’s all about making Maths easy to understand. Then it will lead to success and enjoyment in the subject. I have been developing a lot of techniques to make Math easy for a long time and to make sure everyone excels in it. I’m certain to implement all my ideas that I gained through my teaching experience to help our students enjoy Maths and excel in it. I will achieve this important goal successfully and I know how to do it.
